AT A GLANCE

  • Fruit “fasting” means eating only fresh fruit and drinking water for a specified number of days.
  • While eating fruit is good for you in moderation, too much fruit can increase your blood sugar, which can be especially dangerous for individual with diabetes or insulin resistance.
  • If your goal is to lose weight, a fruit fast may not be the best option.

INTRO

Let me tell you about my experience with the fruit fast.

Have you seen the weight loss and detox gurus out there on social media? It seems like they are everywhere. Some claim weight loss in a few days. Others claim energy, good health, and happiness forever after.

But few claimed it would be easy—until I ran across the Fruit Fast.

When I heard someone say they’d lost ten pounds in three days by only eating fruit, I had to check it out.

Would you try a three-day diet of only fruit and water?

Well, I did—so you don’t have to.

How can someone lose so much weight in so little time? How did fruit make this possible?

HERE’S WHAT I DISCOVERED

When you cut your caloric intake and take out carbs and protein, it’s very easy to lose what we call “water weight.”

Fresh organic fruit not only tastes good and has the fiber we need, it also offers a lot of amazing vitamins and minerals, like vitamin C, vitamin A, and potassium. We need these nutrients to be healthy and produce energy.

But, too much of a good thing can become a bad thing. Fresh organic fruit has something we might not think too much about… Sugar.

“I could eat as much as I wanted, and yet, I felt like I was starving.”

If you are diabetic or insulin resistant, that’s an important detail to keep in mind.

There are a few fruits that you can eat that are high in antioxidants and low in sugar. Green Apples, Bilberries, and Blueberries won’t increase your sugar intake. But most fruit do.

I was excited to try the fruit fast. On Day One, I ate blueberries, watermelon, apples, and lots of strawberries. And I found myself gulping down a lot of water.

By the end of that day, I was happy I stuck to my diet. But I have to be honest, I was HUNGRY.

I found myself waking up in the middle of the night, desperate for something to snack on. So I ate an apple and went back to bed.

Day Two, I had a busy day and forgot to cut up enough fruit. I had a few bananas and some watermelon for lunch. I found myself needing to use the bathroom a lot, which wasn’t so great when I was on the move.

The good news? Well, I wasn’t as hungry as I had been the night before.

By Day Three, I was five pounds down and over it.

Don’t get me wrong. I love fruit. But eating only fruit became really boring.

I had a rainbow arrangement on my plate and a smoothie here and there. I could eat as much as I wanted, and yet, I felt like I was starving.

But the pain was worth it… Right?

Hmm. Not so much.

By Day Five, I was back to eating veggies and meat and had gained back four pounds.

The moral of my story? Not everything you see on the internet is accurate.

HAVE A GOAL AND KNOW THE STEPS TO REACH IT

It is important to have a goal and know the steps to reach it. With dieting, the goal is to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable manner.

It’s important to choose a diet you can enjoy and stick to. Research is important. Look for studies and data that validate a diet’s effectiveness. You need to know that you can get the results you’re seeking and how long it will take to reach your goal.

A good diet consists of a healthy amount of:

• Organic fruits and vegetables
• Lean animal protein
• Plenty of CLEAN water
• Regular exercise
• And vitamin D through sun exposure or a supplement

That’s right, get outside! Nourish your body and spirit with the beautiful sunlight every chance you get.

Whether you’re taking a walk or sunbathing, sunlight supports your digestion and helps your body absorb the nutrients from the fruits and veggies you ate.

Questions

“One of the best self help books I have ever read. I learned more about myself from the questions & personal stories than any book I have ever read.”

YOU NEED MORE THAN JUST A GREAT DIET

An organic whole-food diet is what you need, but most people find they need to detoxify and cleanse their bodies, too.

A 28-day cleanse is a great way to clear your body of toxins. These toxins can make you feel tired and even sick. They can cause skin rashes, digestive unease, and even make your brain foggy.

A good cleanse not only sets up your body’s internal terrain for a healthier happier you, it will get you started on a weight-loss journey that will last a lifetime.

If you’re looking to cleanse the right way, you’ll want to check out EHI’s Energetic Cleansing and Fasting Certification.
