What Is CBD Oil?

CBD oil, (also known as “hemp extract” from the brand I buy EvoHemp) is known for its chemical compound, cannabidiol. CBD occurs naturally in the cannabis plant. CBD has been known to successfully treat epilepsy…parents are praising CBD oil for managing children’s seizures far better than any pharmaceutical drug. With little to no THC (the part of the cannabis plant that gets you ‘high’), CBD oil is powerful for chronic pain management, anxiety, depression, insomnia, arthritis (inflammation) and more! CBD is legal is all 50 states, unless you are buying a blend with THC. For those who are unfamiliar, Marijuana contains both CBD and THC compounds. CBD is plant derived so I feel better about taking this daily rather than a Tylenol PM or Ibuprofen (NSAIDS).

CBD produces these amazing effects by attaching to certain receptors in the body. The human body actually produces certain cannabinoids completely on its own. CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are located in our brain. CB2 receptors are commonly found in the immune system, helping decrease inflammation and pain. Past research has said that CBD attaches to CB2 receptors, but now research is suggesting that CBD more so helps the body use its own cannabinoids.

In June 2018, the FDA approved the use of CBD to treat two types of epilepsy. The decision to approve CBD was based on the results of solid clinical trials. Researchers have also not performed any studies involving children. There were no significant side effects found on the central nervous system, vital signs, or mood in those who used high doses. Small side effects included tiredness, change in appetite and diarrhea.

Start small and be smart about it!

Since there are no industry wide standards set in place to ensure you are getting a high quality and potent product, doing your research on each brand you consider buying is recommended. Companies like EvoHemp make sure each batch of product is third party tested for potency and quality. EvoHemp grows their hemp in the USA, it’s also non-GMO and organic. You’ll want to make sure that the product you are consuming is free of heavy metals, pesticides, solvent residues and any other contaminants. I had to research all of this for a previous school assignment!! Other companies charge DOUBLE for 500 mg of CBD oil compared to EvoHemp for essentially the same product! It may also take some trial and error to find the right dose for YOU. I did start with 250 mg and found that I needed to increase and give it another shot. 500 mg has been helping my Insomnia SO much. I wake up feeling well rested. I hope this post helps you decide on whether or not CBD is the right choice for you!
