Why You Shouldn't Cook With Olive Oil
if You Want the Benefits from It

ARTICLE IN A NUTSHELL

1. Heating any oil, including olive oil, to the point where it begins smoking permanently turns a healthy oil into an artery-clogging, trans fatty acid.

.2. Buying organic, cold-pressed, extra virgin olive oil is a great way to make a small investment in your health and save money in the long-term.

3. Dark, glass bottles or containers that shield the light that can cause this delicate and delicious oil to turn rancid, even while it is still on the market shelf.

INTRO

When in its raw state, olive oil can be healthy for almost everyone. However, it is possible to cook the health benefits out of your olive oil, and unfortunately, that’s what most people unknowingly do.

While most recipes that require a high heat cooking method (baking, sautéing, frying, etc.) will recommend olive oil, very few of the chefs who construct these delicious recipes realize that they’re recommending the wrong oil for the cooking temperatures their recipes call for.

Cook with olive oil at a temperature that makes it smoke and all you’re really doing is turning a healthy oil into an artery clogging trans fatty acid.

High Heat Cooking and Olive Oil

Cooking with olive oil at temperatures that exceed 325 degrees Fahrenheit quickly destroys the healthy essential fatty acids and degrades the polyphenols, vitamin E, and other assorted phytonutrients because they are not heat resistant. (3)

Olive oil is loaded with phytonutrients, polyphenols, essential fatty acids, and vitamin E. These assorted phytonutrients and polyphenols have significant antioxidant properties that help stop cellular damage before it can start and also help promote anti-inflammatory physiologic responses within the body. These health benefits are lost when the cooking temperature olive oil is exposed to reaches 325 degrees Fahrenheit. (4)(5)(6)

Here is a wonderful resource from SpectrumOrganics.com that clearly shows a variety of oils and the maximum temperature they can be exposed to before they reach their smoke point. Remember, when a cooking oil begins smoking it has converted from a healthy investment into an artery-clogging expense. (7)(8

REASON 1: ORGANIC OLIVE OIL IS AN INVESTMENT

When investing your money on a good quality olive oil, you want the freshest, most recently cold-pressed, organic, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) you can find. Organic EVOO’s will not only have the best taste but will also have the highest nutritional potency available and buying as close to local is always best as olive oil is delicate and very sensitive to both temperature and light, because the longer the travel time, the greater possibility that the olive oil you’re purchasing is not as potent as it once was.

Olive oil processed and imported from foreign countries are most often shipped on slow-moving cargo ships, taking days to weeks to reach their destination, where they often sit at the docks for weeks before being unloaded. After being unloaded, bottled olive oil will be transported to warehouses where they sit even longer, and with each passing day that it takes to get the olive oil to your kitchen the possibility that nutrients can be lost and rancidity can overtake your oil, only grows.

Eating organic is an investment in your health. Protect the nutrients in your investment by buying local and shielding your health investment from light and temperatures that can ruin your oil.

"An article published by The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found that vitamin D deficiency was found in 82.2 % of COVID cases and that blood levels of vitamin D were lower in hospitalized patients compared to those that did not need hospitalization."

VITAMIN C

Vitamin C also plays a role in both innate and adaptive immune responses. It helps increase the production and effectiveness of B cells, which produce the antibodies that fight infections. Vitamin C also enhances T cells activity, which can kill infections. Therefore, vitamin C deficiency leads to an increased susceptibility to infections and ineffective immune response. (6)

Vitamin C is essential and because it is a water-soluble vitamin, it must be replenished daily to prevent deficiencies. Deficiencies of vitamin C can lead to severe illnesses and even death. (7)

The preliminary research on vitamin C with respect to prevention and treatment of COVID is in progress and the early returns are exciting. In fact, several studies report vitamin C shortens ICU stay and duration of mechanical ventilation necessary in critically ill patients. (8) (9)

A recent study suggests the role of vitamin C deficiency on COVID, where vitamin C levels were undetectable in 90% of the 18 patients included. Another study measured vitamin C and D levels in 21 people with critical COVID illness and they found most critically ill patients had low vitamin C and D levels. (10) (11)

In another study from March of 2020, intravenous vitamin C was given to 50 moderate to severe COVID patients. All 50 patients recovered without incident and on average 3 to 5 days faster than the standard of care control group which also reported several deaths. The average daily cost of treatment was only $12.00 to $24.00 US. (12)

Dr. Cheng, who led the research team, reported his findings on YouTube for the world to see, but within a month the video was censored and removed for violating YouTube community guidelines regarding COVID treatment. Yes, a licensed doctor, working in the Wuhan epicenter, who developed a safe and very effective treatment protocol, was censored during a global health crisis.

VITAMIN A

Vitamin A performs a variety of tasks in our immune system. This fat-soluble vitamin is needed for health of all mucus membranes such as sinuses, mouth, lungs, and the digestive tract.  Vitamin A also plays an important role in the production and functioning of certain immune cells such as macrophages and neutrophils, which act as a first line of defense and dendritic cells, which help the immune system recognize and fight specific antigens. Vitamin A also enhances secretory IgA protecting against pathogens. (13)

Deficiency of vitamin A impairs the repair of mucus membranes increasing the risk and severity of infections. The deficiency of this nutrient also lowers the function of the previously mentioned immune cells decreasing their ability to fight of pathogens and provide protection.  (14)

Vitamin A is essential for proper immune function. Deficiency in vitamin A and or any of the key nutrients will result in lower or compromised immune function and increase the risk of infection.

A report published by BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health concludes there is strong evidence that intake of vitamins A, E, and D results in the improvement of respiratory symptoms. (15)

Now that I’ve learned so much about holistic nutrition and felt Energetic Heath first hand, I can wholeheartedly respond to my calling."

ZINC

Zinc, like the aforementioned nutrients, participates in a variety of functions essential for Energetic Health. These functions include DNA and protein synthesis, macronutrient metabolism, wound healing, enzyme function, and immune function. This micronutrient is responsible for the growth and maturity of numerous immune cells that protect against infections.

Deficiency of zinc can lead to serious dysfunctions of the immune system because zinc can also act as an antioxidant. Zinc is essential for the activity of a series of enzymes instrumental to rapid immune response for the clearance of opportunistic pathogens. (16) (17)

Research has proven that zinc accelerates recovery time during the common cold which can be cause by a variety of coronaviruses. (18)

QUERCETIN

Quercetin is a potent antioxidant with the ability to improve memory and help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. Quercetin is used to reduce symptoms of allergies, to improve cardiovascular health, to improve blood sugar regulation, reduce inflammation, and some studies suggests its cancer fighting properties.

Quercetin is a zinc ionophore that help both the absorption of zinc into the body as well as the absorption of zinc into cells dependent upon it for enzyme production. Additionally, as a potent antioxidant, Quercetin is an equally potent anti-bacterial and antiviral nutrient that is particularly essential for respiratory and cardiovascular infections.

Although more research is necessary for specific information about quercetin and COVID, there is strong evidence showing the potential benefits of this nutrient. Quercetin is recommended to be supplemented in combination with vitamin C for better absorption and improved synergistic function. (19) (20) (21)

L-ARGININE

L-arginine is an amino acid which helps build protein in the body and it has been studied for its effects enhancing cardiovascular health, its antioxidant properties, and immune boosting benefits.

One of the main arguments for L-arginine’s therapeutic effects focused on its ability to convert to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a naturally occurring compound which plays a role in the health of blood vessels improving blood flow. Nitric oxide improves the symptoms of conditions such as asthma and it is used as a medical intervention for acute lung infection.

Nitric oxide is being suggested by researchers as another treatment for COVID based on previously done studies which reported success in helping during the coronavirus virus epidemic of 2003. Researchers also mention the anti-viral effects of nitric oxide could be beneficial in helping treat COVID. (22) (23) (24)

GLUTATHIONE

Glutathione is a master antioxidant manufactured by the human body. It is essential for the detoxification of toxic chemicals, it helps recycle key nutrients, it protects against free radical damage, and it also participates in supporting immune function. Deficiencies of glutathione place individuals at risk for bioaccumulation of chemicals, which increases oxidative stress and inflammation while simultaneously lowering immune function.

One precursor that can be taken to boost glutathione levels in the body is N-Acetylcysteine (NAC). NAC, like L-arginine can increase nitric oxide levels improving blood flow. NAC is used to help treat different conditions including respiratory conditions as it helps thin out mucus and it has anti-inflammatory properties.

NAC is currently being explored by and used effectively in the treatment of COVID although the exact mechanism of action is still being evaluated. Researchers suggest it may significantly improve immune cell function and reduce inflammation which could result in lower hospitalization and death rates.  (25) (26) (27) (28) (29)

FINAL THOUGHTS

Do safe and effective treatments for COVID exist? While the scientific evidence appears to say ‘yes’ in overwhelming ways, you will have to decide for yourself as we are legally prevented from making such claims. Regardless of source of infection, these 7 amazing nutrients have been kept in the shadows for far too long. According to the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University, they are essential for a robust natural immune response to any infection. And relative to the high cost of hospitalization, high cost antivirals, and supportive oxygen therapy, these nutrients are low cost. Why we haven’t been using them since early 2020 is perhaps the best question we can ask of our governors and public health officials.
